A Day's Work

We want to do things like:
Write on our blogs.
Stretch our arms and legs in yogic positions.
Go to the movies.
Drink beer and wine with our friends.
Sleep in the same bed with our spouses.
Pay our bills.

We get to do things like:
Sit in a chair and
Feed our babies.
Sit in a chair and
Feed our babies.
Sit in a chair then
Change our babies.

Occasionally, we can:
Bounce on the ball and
Soothe our babies.
Grab two bites of breakfast
at 2 p.m.

Some of us feel frustrated
because we expect that we'll
be able to do some more of the
things we want to do.
That our yoga session will last
longer than 12 minutes.
That our blog entries won't take
six days to write.
That we could accomplish
more in a day.

But that's just it.
What if we expected to just
sit in a chair?
to feed our babies?
to occasionally stand up during the day?
What if we learned that expectations
were less important than our babies?
Maybe then we would feel like
we've accomplished
something so much more
important than
tighter abs
smarter words
or
any
other
thing.
